Laser hair removal – Mirabel Clinic – Swindon

Laser hair removal in Swindon: If you experience excessive or unwanted hair and are dreading the summer months when we tend to bare more flesh then now is the time to consider laser hair removal. The endless shaving, waxing or creaming that you will need to do not only becomes a bore but can be, potentially, quite uncomfortable.

From Mirabel Clinic in the heart of Swindon, we offer laser hair removal for most skin and hair types, with minimal discomfort and the permanent reduction of unwanted or excess hair, using our GentleMax Pro Alexandrite and ND Yag laser device; so you can get your body summer-ready with minimal inconvenience or discomfort.

Why should I consider laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal is a longer-term solution to unwanted hair and can offer permanent hair-reduction for most suitable patients. Our GentleMax Pro system emits specific wavelengths of light into the hair follicle, killing the root. Your hair grows in three cycles and as the laser light only affects hairs in the Anagen phase (the growing phase), it’s important to have a course of treatment for the very best results.

This usually consists of a treatment 4 to 6 weeks apart for around 8 to 10 sessions, depending on the thickness of the hair and your skin tone.

Am I suitable for laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal works by targeting melanin, so it’s important to target only hair which has a pigment at the root (so very bright red, white or very blonde hair may not respond as well to this treatment). It’s also important to understand that if you have very dark skin, this treatment might not be suitable for you, as the light will target the pigment in your skin, as opposed to your hair follicles, potentially burning it.

Before we can decide whether a course of laser hair removal would be right for you, we will ask that you attend a no obligation consultation, skin analysis and patch test, here at Mirabel Clinic, to determine if it will be a viable and safe option. Our laser device has a unique cooling setting as well as multi-light settings, so the range of patients we can treat is maximised and discomfort is minimised.

After your initial consultation has been carried out and the patch test proves successful, we can begin your course of laser hair removal treatment.

What happens during a laser hair removal treatment at Mirabel Clinic?

You will be asked to shave the area/s of skin to be treated, prior to your appointment, as the laser light needs to penetrate the hair follicle and not the hair itself. During the treatment, goggles are worn to protect the eyes.

The device applicator is then placed in contact with the skin, and the laser light targets the hair follicles, as the head is moved across the skin. Once the treatment is completed, you can return to your daily routine, as long as you adhere to any aftercare advice, such as avoiding sun exposure, hot steam or saunas and applying an SPF to exposed skin.

Is there any downtime to laser hair removal?

Following your treatment you won’t need to undergo any recovery at home as such, but there may be some redness and swelling of the treated area/s, which usually subsides within 24 hours.

As with any laser treatment, there can be a small risk of burning or pigmentation changes. Let us know immediately if you notice this and we can alter the settings at your next appointment.

Why should I choose the GentleMax Pro laser hair removal device at Mirabel Clinic?

Contrary to its name, the GentleMax Pro laser is a highly powerful, state-of-the-art device which delivers permanent hair reduction quickly, comfortably and efficiently. It works by selectively targeting the hair follicle for thermal destruction without damaging the surrounding tissues. The epidermis is protected from extreme heat by the Dynamic Cooling Device™ (DCD™) cooling system, which sprays the skin with a liquid coolant solution, before each light pulse is emitted. The cooling system is uniquely adjustable which means it can be increased for your individual comfort.

The GentleMax Pro laser combines two of the most effective and powerful laser technologies in two, built-in laser heads – Alexandrite and ND Yag lasers. It offers changeable spot sizes which allows precision treatment of smaller, more difficult to access areas, such as intimate areas for ‘Hollywood’ treatments.

Does laser hair removal permanently remove all hair?

We cannot state that laser hair removal permanently removes ALL hair, but many patients can enjoy up to a 90% reduction in their hair growth, permanently. However, it is important to keep in mind, that certain life-stage changes or medical conditions may affect the results. The menopause as well as polycystic ovarian syndrome may mean that hair can grow back, albeit thinner and finer. Laser hair removal is actually very effective, even with these factors, but you may require some maintenance treatments once a year, to keep the hair from growing back, if these factors are present.
