Overview …
PhotoFabulous™ is a combined skin rejuvenation treatment performed using the Lumenis M22 platform. What makes it distinct is that it does not rely on one modality alone. Instead, it brings together IPL and ResurFX™ in sequence, allowing visible tone concerns and textural concerns to be addressed within the same appointment.
IPL is used to target concerns linked to colour and clarity in the skin, including pigmentation, sun damage and vascular change. ResurFX™ is a non-ablative fractional resurfacing treatment used to support collagen and elastin renewal, helping to improve fine lines, uneven texture and certain forms of scarring, including acne scarring.
This combination makes Photofabulous™ particularly suited to skin that is beginning to show multiple signs of change at once, where tone is less even, texture is less refined and overall skin quality feels less fresh than it once did. Rather than treating only one visible issue, it offers a more comprehensive approach to rejuvenation.

PhotoFabulous™ at Mirabel
At Mirabel, treatment planning is based on consultation, skin assessment and safe preparation of the skin beforehand. A course is normally recommended, with results building progressively as the skin responds over time. PhotoFabulous™ is performed using the Lumenis M22 system. This is a multi-technology platform, and Photofabulous specifically uses IPL together with ResurFX™ in the same session so that both visible discolouration and skin texture can be treated in a more joined-up way.
What concerns can PhotoFabulous™ treat?
PhotoFabulous™ is used for a broad range of early ageing and skin quality concerns, including pigmentation, age or sun spots, fine lines, uneven skin tone, uneven texture and acne scarring. It is particularly useful where the skin needs improvement in more than one area rather than a single isolated concern.
What to expect during the process
Your treatment begins with a thorough consultation and skin assessment to confirm suitability and plan the correct settings for your skin type and concerns. A patch test will have been completed in advance.
On the day of treatment, the skin is cleansed and a cooling gel is applied. You will be given protective eyewear. The IPL phase is performed first, delivering controlled pulses of light across the treatment area to target pigmentation. This is followed by ResurFX, which is applied to the same area to support collagen stimulation and improve texture.
The treatment typically takes around 45–60 minutes depending on the area. Sensation varies, but IPL is often described as a quick flick or snap against the skin, while ResurFX produces a more sustained warmth. Some patients tolerate the treatment without anaesthetic, although this can be discussed if needed.
Immediately after treatment, the skin may appear flushed and feel warm, similar to mild sun exposure. Pigmented areas can temporarily darken before they begin to fade, and there may be mild swelling. These effects usually settle over the following few days.
You will be given aftercare advice, including the use of gentle skincare and strict sun protection. Normal activities can usually be resumed quickly, although exercise, heat treatments and sun exposure should be avoided for a short period.
What can influence results
Results are influenced by a combination of skin factors, treatment planning and aftercare.
Your baseline skin condition plays a key role. Pigmentation and textural irregularities respond at different rates, and more complex or longstanding concerns may require a longer course of treatment.
Skin type and tone are also important. IPL works by targeting pigment, so treatment parameters must be carefully adjusted for safety and effectiveness, particularly in darker skin types.
Consistency of treatment is a significant factor. Photofabulous™ is designed as a course-based treatment, with results building progressively. Spacing treatments appropriately allows the skin to respond and remodel between sessions.
Sun exposure before and after treatment can affect both safety and outcome. Recent tanning or ongoing UV exposure may limit suitability or increase the risk of pigmentation changes, which is why strict sun protection is essential throughout the course.
Your skincare routine can support or limit results. Medical-grade skincare, particularly products that support skin turnover and pigment control, can enhance and maintain the outcome of treatment.
Finally, lifestyle factors such as smoking, hydration and general skin health can influence how effectively the skin repairs and regenerates following treatment.
At Mirabel, these variables are considered as part of a longer-term, personalised plan, ensuring that treatment is adjusted over time to achieve the most consistent and natural-looking results.
