Medical aesthetics in Swindon: choosing a practitioner – Mirabel Clinic – Swindon

Medical aesthetics is a huge part of the medical beauty industry and most of us at some point will either research or undergo some kind of cosmetic treatment, whether surgical or non-surgical, at some point in our lives.

With the industry growing at lightning speed each year, it’s no wonder that non-medical practitioners are starting to train in and practice various procedures. While this is fine for certain non-invasive or ablative treatments, injectables and more intensive therapies and minor surgeries really need to be undertaken by a fully-qualified medical practitioner.

At Mirabel Clinic in Swindon, all our practitioners are fully-qualified for the procedures in which they practice and it means you have peace of mind that you’re choosing a safe option, when it comes to non-surgical treatments.

When thinking about who to go to for an aesthetic treatment, there are a few important things to consider. We have listed them, so you can keep these in mind, when you are making your decision on who is going to work on your face, body or skin!

Is my aesthetics clinic in Swindon medical?

If the clinic offers injectables such as Botox®, dermal fillers or dermal re-modellers such as Profhilo®, ensure that the practitioner who is carrying out these procedures is fully-qualified and medically-trained.

These individuals include registered prescribing nurses, plastic surgeons, doctors and dentists. Anyone who does not possess a medical qualification and is practicing injectable treatments is taking a risk.

Although the aesthetic industry is not regulated in this area, it’s common sense that using needles and cannulas takes medical achievement, education and knowledge. There are so many things that could go wrong if chances are taken or the procedure is not being carried out by someone who has the skill, knowledge and expertise to handle any unforeseen circumstances, it’s simply not worth taking the risk.

Make sure the clinic asks to see you for an initial consultation

Any practitioner who offers you any type of skin or body treatment, no matter what it is, should ask to see you for an initial consultation, examination and medical history check beforehand. In many cases of cosmetic treatments, there are contraindications which could prevent or restrict the procedure from going ahead, no matter how minor or non-invasive.

A cooling off period before treatments allows you to consider the information received at consultation and decide whether to go ahead.

If a clinic offers you a treatment without this initial consultation, they will not be able to tell if you may have a slight or even serious reaction to the treatment. Steer clear if this is the case and go to a clinic who covers all basis and has your safety as its top priority.

Consultations at Mirabel Clinic are always free of charge, and allow you to get expert advice and go away to consider your next actions. You can book one by calling us on 01793 321180.

Be wary of online deals

We have all seen them on those websites ‘3 areas of Botox® for £50’. You have got to ask yourself when things seem too good to be true “are they?”.

A cheap treatment may mean that the product is most likely to be sub-standard or something bought without regulation, from overseas or cheaply in ‘bulk’ or even a counterfeit product, the practitioner might not be fully-qualified, may be very new to the industry and trying to increase footfall in to the clinic, or may not even have a permanent clinic at all!

A practitioner who is expert in a particular treatment would have spent years and thousands of hours (not mentioning tens of thousands of pounds) studying to become an expert in their field. Cheap deals are either ruining the business of the practitioner’s business model (working for no profit) or are too good to be true.

In many cases, patients who fall for these deals end up having to have secondary, corrective treatments to undo some pretty worrying work, which can not only leave someone permanently scarred or injured, but can be a risk to health. In medical aesthetics, you really do get what you pay for, so make sure you choose your clinic and prices, sensibly.

A good practitioner will always want to follow up after your treatment

Once you have had a particular treatment and allowed time for any recovery, swelling or bruising to subside, your practitioner should give you the option to return for a follow-up appointment. In this meeting you can discuss the results so far and if you feel you need any adjustments or additional product, you can tell them.

This is the beauty of attending a fully CQC and GMC registered, established clinic and not attending Botox® parties or group gatherings where treatments are carried out in someone’s house by a practitioner who doesn’t have a permanent clinic location. Ensuring that your treatment is managed well even after you have paid your money, is part of a clinic’s professional and medical duty of care, no matter what treatment you have undergone, so make sure this is offered as standard.

Finally – the results!

You should be delighted with the results that your practitioner achieves for you and if not, you should be able to discuss perhaps why the results you were expecting didn’t come to fruition.

A patient’s expectations need to be managed well and this all comes in to the initial consultation you have with your chosen practitioner. There is no point in promising you miracles, for you only to be disappointed. Therefore, a really good practitioner will define and outline the results that ‘should’ be achieved with each treatment and if a course of treatment is required, how many sessions you will need to obtain the very best results. Your relationship with your practitioner should be one based on good information, trust and the results that you have been advised to expect.

If one particular treatment is perhaps not right for you, expect a good practitioner to push back and advise you not to go ahead. They may point you in the direction of an alternative treatment or even advise you to avoid trying to improve on something that cannot be improved, if they feel you may risk your health or wellbeing. Of course we want the very best results possible for you, here at Mirabel Clinic, but we also want you to be well-informed and have a realistic idea of what you can achieve with a particular treatment or course of treatment. This is how we build your trust and a relationship which lasts years, as opposed to a ‘one-off’ encounter.
