Everything you need to know about lip fillers – Mirabel Clinic – Swindon

Lip fillers in Swindon: Dermal fillers for the lip area are hugely popular and here at Mirabel Clinic in Swindon, we see patients who have travelled across Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Oxford to have a treatment with us. The reasons for this are varied and if you are considering having lip fillers for subtle enhancement, asymmetry correction or simply to add a little ‘va va voom’ to your lips, you are heading to the right place!

Mirabel Clinic offers the best lip fillers Swindon has to offer, in terms of our experience and quality of dermal fillers used. Here’s our guide to lip filler treatments.

How do lip fillers work?

Dermal fillers work wonders for plumping, re-shaping and augmenting the lip area, as well as a variety of other areas of the face. The reason for this is that they physically lift the skin tissues and sit innately amongst the layers of skin.

Hyaluronic acid (HA), the main component of lip fillers holds up to 1000 times its own weight in water, and acts as a sponge for the skin cells, hydrating and replenishing them over time. When these fillers are injected by a highly-skilled medical professional, the results can be astounding. Whether it is a very natural looking enhancement, or something more dramatic, such as asymmetry correction or an enhanced projection, dermal fillers can not only make you look more youthful, but can do amazing things for your confidence!

Dermal fillers are temporary, which you might think is a negative, but if you think about it, over time, your face is constantly changing with age and environmental stresses. The beauty of temporary dermal fillers is that as your lips change over time, your practitioner here at Mirabel Clinic, can ‘tweak’ the type, consistency or quantity of filler that they inject, to suit your ever-changing lip shape, skin quality and desires for results.

We tend to find that our younger patients want quite a substantial change, whereas our more mature patients like to have a very subtle enhancement. As long as it is medically ethical and suits the individual’s facial anatomy, we are happy and skilled to oblige. We will not however, over ‘fill’ or dramatically augment a patient’s lips, if we feel that the end result will not compliment their natural beauty or facial profile. We have a duty of care to all our patients to give them natural, soft and pleasing results, that they will be truly delighted with.

What makes a good dermal filler?

A high-grade dermal filler will contain HA as its main component, will be sourced from official pharmaceutical companies, will be FDA-approved and CE certified and will not contain collagen or be permanent (these are not licensed for use in the UK).

Your practitioner will explain why they are going to use a particular dermal filler, the benefits in the facial treatment area, longevity of results and whether you will have any reactions or side-effects (such as bruising etc). They will also select the right tool for the job (in many cases nowadays, dermal fillers are administered using a cannula – a blunt-ended needle which reduces tissue trauma and bruising).

During a consultation, we will also advise you on how many treatments you might need, especially in cases where more volume is required. Building the lips and the lip profile can take 2, 3 even 4 sessions, to ensure that the lips and the skin tissues are able to adjust to the dermal filler injected and that a natural result is achieved.

Am I suitable for dermal fillers in my lips?

Before we agree on any treatment here at Mirabel Clinic, we will always ask that you attend a no obligation free of charge consultation and facial analysis.

This initial meeting is really important. It’s important for you, so you get to know your practitioner, understand the ins and outs of the treatment and can make an informed and educated decision on whether lip filler treatment is for you. It’s also vital for your practitioner as it’s in this meeting they will assess your facial anatomy, discuss with you what bothers you about your lips and can explain the process as well as any cosmetic downtime and aftercare instructions.

They can also check your medical history, to ensure that there are no medical reasons which may prevent you from having a dermal filler lip treatment. Once both you and your practitioner are happy to proceed, you can book your dermal filler treatment appointment.

How long before I see results from a lip filler treatment?

Results can be seen straight away, but it’s important to remember you may have some swelling, bruising and redness for a few days after your treatment. As a general rule, we advise that after 2 weeks, you should see your optimum results. At this point you can return to the clinic for a follow-up appointment and adjustments if required.

How long do lip fillers last?

This all depends on many factors; your own response to dermal fillers and how fast you metabolise HA, your lifestyle choices (smoking, excessive exercise and sun exposure can speed up HA metabolism), the product and techniques used and the skill of your practitioner.

We usually advise on average to expect your lip fillers to last between 4 and 8 months. In many cases, however, some patients enjoy results for up to 12 months!

When is the best time to have lip fillers?

Due to the potential for swelling, bruising and redness, following your lip filler treatment, we would advise that you time your procedure around any social engagements. We would advise, if you are getting married for example, that you have a lip filler treatment around 8 months before the wedding (to see if you like the results achieved) and then around 4 to 6 weeks before the wedding to allow for any swelling and bruising to completely subside and for the dermal filler to soften and integrate fully with the skin tissues. For an impending holiday, we can recommend having a lip filler treatment around 3 weeks before you jet off and for a night out, you could manage 2 weeks prior.
