IPL Treatments

IPL treatments are used to reduce hair growth, to rejuvenate the skin, to reduce thread veins and to reduce pigmented skin lesions. The treatment takes a few minutes and involves the IPL handpiece being held up against the skin and pulses of light applied. A number of treatments are usually required to reach the desired effect.

IPL is virtually painless and feels a little like a rubber band snapping against the skin. If pain relief is required however, an anaesthetic gel can be applied before the procedure. A patch test is performed before the start of treatment and then anything from 6 to 8 treatments are required to provide a good permanent reduction in hair growth.

Goggles are applied to protect the eyes and then a layer of gel is applied to the skin. Then the IPL applicator is applied and repeated pulses of light are shone onto the affected skin. Each pulse can cause a slight sting or burning sensation. If pain relief is required then a local anaesthetic gel can be applied before the treatment to numb the skin. Following treatment there may be some redness and swelling and occasionally blistering. As with all IPL treatments there is a small risk of burning or pigmentation changes.
People with very dark skin or deep tans cannot have IPL treatment.

IPL for Hair Removal

Excessive or unsightly hair can be embarrassing and upsetting for both men and women. IPL is a rapid, non-invasive way of removing unwanted hair and is medically proven to give you permanent hair reduction. IPL can treat most areas of the body and is particularly effective on dark hair on pale skin and also for the treatment of ingrown hairs in the bikini area and underarms.

IPL works best on hairs which are in their active growth phase and therefore requires a number of treatments 4 – 8 weeks apart to give a good clearance.

IPL for Acne and Rosacea

IPL is a recognised treatment for mild to moderate acne and rosacea. Both of these conditions involve overactive sebum production and bacterial infection and these are both calmed by the applications of IPL to the skin. The IPL light destroys bacteria and grease glands and reduces inflammation. It
improves acne and rosacea, particularly when used in conjunction with specialist skin care.

IPL for Skin Rejuvenation

IPL skin rejuvenation is a non-invasive treatment that can simultaneously treat a wide range of facial concerns both safely and effectively. The signs of photoageing such as thread veins,  skin discolouration, age spots and mottled pigmentation, are all improved by IPL. The IPL is absorbed into the skin causing a heating effect which penetrates into the superficial and deeper layers.
