Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis)

Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) is a common condition affecting both men and women involving embarrassing sweating of the underarms, palms, soles of the feet and forehead. It can have a significant impact on job prospects, social interactions and general quality of life. Botox can significantly reduce the amount of sweat produced in these areas for up to 6 months. This treatment can be almost life changing for some. Botox binds with the sweat glands and blocks the production of sweat in these glands. This can significantly reduce or completely stop sweating in the areas treated.

Hyperhidrosis can occur in many different parts of the body but the most commonly treated area is the armpit. It is not a temporary condition but usually starts in adolescence and continues throughout life. It is a difficult condition to treat but the most effective treatment is botox.

Treatments To Reduce Sweating

Botox can be used to reduce embarrassing sweating under the arms as well as on the palms and forehead, which can cause significant improvement in sweating for up to six months.
The treatment involves a number of minute injections of Botox into the areas requiring treatment. This is generally well tolerated but if necessary a topical local anaesthetic can be applied before treatment. The treatment should start to take effect at about one week. The response can be quite variable but in general a 90%  reduction in sweat production is obtained at 2 weeks post treatment.
